Speaking was the part of the TEF I kept putting off. I could do grammar exercises on my own, but when someone asked me a question, I would go blank. My teacher helped me practise giving a proper answer, then showed me where I was losing my train of thought. We went back over the things I found difficult instead of rushing ahead. I still get nervous, but I can now keep talking even when I don’t know every word.
I knew quite a bit of French from school, or so I thought, until I tried having an actual conversation! The lessons have been really good for getting me out of my head. We talk about ordinary things, and my teacher helps me find a more natural way to say what I mean. I’m enjoying using the French I already had and building on it.
French homework used to take up our whole evening. My daughter would get upset, and I couldn’t explain things well enough to help. Her teacher took the time to find out what she was missing and worked through it with her. She now starts her homework on her own and asks for help with specific questions. That has made a big difference at home. We’re very happy we found Apprendre French Academy.
The most useful part has been practising conversations I actually have at work. We’ve worked on introducing a project, asking someone to clarify a point and writing a polite follow-up email. I can bring in something I struggled with during the week, and we work through it. It’s made the lessons easy to apply.
I was studying for the TCF after work and spending too much time deciding what to study next. Having someone look at my level and help me focus was a relief. The feedback on my writing has been especially helpful. I used to read a correction and move on; now I understand why a sentence doesn’t work and try it again. The preparation feels much more manageable alongside a full-time job.

I came back to French after a very long break. I was worried I’d be too slow, but I’ve never felt rushed or embarrassed about asking the same question again. The online lessons fit into my week easily. I look forward to them.
I could usually understand a text in French, but explaining my opinion out loud was another matter. In our lessons, I get time to think through an answer and practise saying it in different ways. My teacher picks up on phrases I keep repeating and helps me use a wider range of language. I’m much more comfortable contributing in class now, even if my answer isn’t perfect.
The eight-week format was what made me finally sign up. I’d been saying I wanted to improve my French for ages and needed something with a bit of structure. The mix of conversation, listening and grammar kept it interesting, and I liked revisiting things until they stuck. By the end, I could hear the difference in my pronunciation and follow more of a conversation.
There are three of us in my group, so everyone gets plenty of time to speak. Sometimes another learner asks exactly the question I was about to ask. It’s a relaxed group, and practising together has made me less self-conscious about making mistakes.
We wanted French training that our team could use in client conversations. Apprendre French Academy took the time to understand the situations our staff encounter and the vocabulary they needed. The sessions gave people a chance to rehearse those conversations and ask questions. Our staff have been positive about the training, particularly the attention to their individual levels. Being able to do it online has also made it easier to organise.
